The Child and Adult Care Food Program (CACFP) is a federal program providing financial reimbursement and
nutrition education to participating child care facilities. It is administered in Michigan by the Department
of Education and funded by the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA). Examples of facilities
participating in the CACFP are licensed/registered Child Care Centers, Family/Group Child Care Homes, and Relative Care Providers.
The primary goal of the CACFP is to improve the nutritional intake of children in child care facilities and
provide nutrition education and training to the children's caregivers.
The Kent Regional 4C CACFP serves Allegan, Barry, Clinton, Eaton, Gratiot, Ingham, Ionia, Isabella, Kalamazoo, Kent, Lake,
Mason, Mecosta, Montcalm, Muskegon, Newaygo, Oceana, Osceola, Ottawa, Shiawassee and Wexford Counties.
If you are a parent who wants to know how your licensed child care provider or relative care provider can participate in the food program or are a provider
who would like to join the program, call Shelly Vondale at 616-451-8281 or 1-800-448-6995 ext. 223.
Based on specific criteria, child care centers, homeless and domestic violence shelters, and transitional
housing programs may qualify for the CACFP. These facilities may be able to receive reimbursement for
meals prepared as well as training in the nutritional needs of children. If you are one of these facilities and would like more
information or to apply for the Child and Adult Care Food Program, contact Rosemary Suardini
at the Department of Education, 517-373-4015.
